The Strong Willed Child

Galatians 6:9, ” Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we WILL reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

We spent the past weekend with our second daughter Hannah, her husband and two of our beautiful granddaughters. Upon our surprise arrival, we were greeted by two joy filled little ones, Raegan 2 and Ryleigh 7 months. After hugging our daughter and unloading our stuff, I noticed a sign posted in my daughter’s kitchen. I knew it was strategically placed on the pantry cupboard for a reason. Our daughter opens that cupboard numerous times a day as she prepares meals and hands out snacks. She placed it where she would read it and be reminded of the truth as she is embracing her role as a stay at home wife and Momma. These words encourage her each day as she must lean into the important job of raising a strong willed child. It was written in her hand and spoke a powerful message that I just had to share because Hannah was our first strong willed daughter! This weekend brought back memories of raising her and wondering if anything I was saying or teaching her was making a difference. Now watching our daughter train her own two year old Raegan, determined to do everything “HER WAY, I am So grateful I did not give up doing good each day. I had to choose to keep my focus on the Lord and stand on His promise that in the proper time I would reap a harvest. My daughter Hannah is evidence of that harvest! She is just as strong willed now but that strength is surrendered to the Lord and she is determined to live her life “God”s Way!” Her heart totally sold out to Him.

So I want to encourage those parenting strong willed children, don’t give up! Walk by faith and not by sight, praying moment by moment for the hearts of your strong willed kiddos to surrender their lives to the saving grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus.

As my husband has always said, “It is going to be awesome when God gets hold of that strong willed heart.” The strong willed child; unwilling to back down, unafraid and determined to share their faith and battle the enemy with the sword of truth.
